Teaching Experience & Curriculum Development

With over 15 years of international teaching experience across the UK, UAE, Europe, and Asia, I have taught, led, and developed academic programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. I began my teaching career as a high school instructor at West Herts College in Watford, UK—an experience I value deeply, as it provided a strong foundation in teaching practice and learner support.

My teaching philosophy centres on practical application, critical thinking, and student engagement, underpinned by a strong commitment to pedagogical innovation and curriculum enhancement. I have taught a broad range of modules in tourism, hospitality, geography, and business management at institutions such as King’s College London, the University of Northampton (UK), Higher Colleges of Technology (UAE), Meikai University (Japan), GBSB Global Business School (Spain), Deggendorf Institute of Technology and Munich University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Amity University (India), among others. My teaching portfolio includes core and specialist modules such as Urban and Cultural Tourism, Service Excellence Design, Tourism Planning, Innovation in Hospitality, Qualitative Research Methods, and Sustainable Tourism Development.

My pedagogical approach is influenced by the ‘How People Learn’ framework developed by Bransford, Vye, and Bateman (2002). Each of my sessions is structured around four key dimensions: knowledge-centred, learner-centred, assessment-centred, and community-centred learning. To establish a knowledge-centred environment, students are provided with preliminary readings, industry reports, and research tasks that introduce relevant theories and frameworks. Learning goals are clearly communicated in advance, along with guidance on how acquired knowledge will be applied throughout the module.

My sessions are designed to be interactive and student-led. Learners engage in critical discussions informed by case studies and real-world industry scenarios. I frequently incorporate problem-based learning to stimulate creativity, encourage innovation, and support peer learning through collaborative analysis and reflection. Students are guided to apply theoretical concepts to real-life contexts and consider how these insights inform their summative assessments.

I hold several academic and professional teaching qualifications, including a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) from the University of Northampton, PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) from City & Guilds, and pedagogical training in Peer Observation and Feedback from King’s College London. I am a Certified Hospitality Educator (American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute), Certified Business and Management Educator (Chartered Association of Business Schools, UK), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

In support of quality assurance, I hold the Edexcel Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement and the Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance. These qualifications have enabled me to lead modules, develop assessments, oversee moderation processes, and conduct staff training.

My commitment to continuous professional development is reflected in my participation in executive education and CPD programmes offered by Harvard University, Cornell University, Imperial College London, the University of Michigan, and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. I also regularly attend and present at international teaching and learning conferences.

Across all institutions, I have supervised over 100 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral research projects. I continue to mentor students and academic colleagues, with the goal of fostering globally relevant, inclusive, and transformative learning experiences in tourism and hospitality education.
