I am pleased to announce the publication of my new edited volume, Solutions for Managing Overtourism in Popular Destinations, co-edited with Dr. Narendra Kumar (Amity University, Noida, India), Dr. Shiva Ilkhani Zadeh (Bournemouth University, UK), and Dr. Sunita Sharma (Amity University, Noida, India). The book is now available through IGI Global Publishing.
Overtourism has become one of the most pressing challenges facing the global tourism industry. While the sector continues to bring significant economic and cultural benefits, the negative impacts of overcrowding—on local communities, heritage sites, ecosystems, and the visitor experience—have reached critical levels in many popular destinations. This volume brings together international scholars, practitioners, and policy experts to explore actionable solutions to this complex issue.
The book offers a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing on case studies, empirical research, and innovative frameworks from across the globe. Chapters examine a range of themes including visitor management, destination governance, community engagement, carrying capacity, and the role of technology in monitoring and mitigating overtourism. Importantly, the volume also discusses emerging approaches such as regenerative tourism, seasonal dispersal, and alternative destination marketing strategies.
As one of the editors and contributors, I am particularly proud of the collaborative spirit and global scope of this publication. It is designed to be of value not only to academics and students in tourism and hospitality, but also to policymakers, destination managers, and industry professionals who are seeking sustainable, evidence-based approaches to tourism planning and development.
Solutions for Managing Overtourism in Popular Destinations is part of IGI Global’s ongoing commitment to publishing timely and relevant research in the field of sustainable development and tourism management. I would like to thank my co-editors, our contributing authors, and the editorial team at IGI Global for their dedication and professionalism throughout this project.
