Dr. Nick Naumov is a highly experienced academic with a strong multidisciplinary background in critical heritage studies, human geography, and tourism. His expertise spans diverse areas including heritage and urban tourism, cultural and historical geography, intangible heritage, food tourism, and urban development.
Some time ago, one of my students asked me how I managed to remember so many details about the places I’ve been to. The hidden secret is that I feel those places—I walk around to breathe the air, I talk to locals to learn more about their social space, I sit at a café watching how life goes by… and there is nothing else in life that brings me more joy and pleasure!
I consider myself not just an academic, but a (rather critical) travel enthusiast, a storyteller, a father, and someone who believes that tourism (when done right) has the power to transform lives and places alike. Tourism is my job, my hobby, my passion, my life. I love it, and I cannot imagine my life without it. I see tourism through various lenses. As a traveller, I see it as a window to the world we live in—it gives us the chance to explore, to escape our busy routines, and to immerse ourselves in completely different environments. As a cultural geographer, I define tourism as an interaction between cultures, a gateway to the hidden world of local societies, and a tool for experiencing the true uniqueness of the places we visit. As an educator, I see tourism as a way to raise our children with awareness and appreciation for how beautiful, diverse, and incredible our world really is. Tourism is a journey… but this journey is about us and our own selves. Through tourism, we learn more about places and people—but we also learn about ourselves. We discover what we love and what we want to do.
Over the years of my career, I’ve worked across three continents—lecturing, consulting, and collaborating with governments, universities, and global hospitality brands. My work is rooted in real-world impact. Whether I’m in the classroom, leading workshops in boardrooms, consulting businesses, or filming short-form thought pieces on the future of cultural tourism, my goal remains the same: to help people and places tell more meaningful, sustainable stories through tourism—and to succeed, both individually and collectively.
You’ll find snapshots of that journey here—publications, case studies, blog entries, and reflections from my career. And if you’re looking for a guest speaker, a research collaborator, or an advisor who understands both strategy and soul—let’s talk.
